Electric Silhouettes Fest

Hi my name is Josh and I was born in Watford, although a fair distance away, I chose to come to Sheffield Hallam not only because of the course itself but the friendly feel the city had too, especially when compared to the other universities I’d also visited. It wasn't until college where i did a multimedia course that i discovered animation!

​Now a bit more about me, listening to music and seeing bands play is a big part for me to escape everyday life and just enjoying the moment. I feel that majority of my happiest memories growing up somehow involves music, certain songs can be particularly nostalgic to me and I just love how it can make me feel, whether that's remembering where I was when a song played or just a happy moment with friends or family that's stuck with me.

​I’ve been working on creating the Electric Silhouettes Fest animation over the however many months of this academic year and wanted to show a more limited animation style, to focus my energy more into the character designs and backgrounds. This piece felt right to do in this style giving a hand drawn quality and using influences of watercolour backgrounds and minimal linework to express the raw and unapologetic energy that I feel when listening to music and of course the experience of seeing it played live.
